Hi Y'all,

Well, I'm busy getting ready to go down to sunny Blackpool on Friday to L5. I'll be hobnobbing with the likes of Jennifer Beales, Laurel Holloman (swoon), Rachel Shelley, Janina Gavankar and approximately 1,000 assorted lesbians from across the Globe. The things you've got to do!!

Look forward to seeing you at AGM - if I'm not whisked off to LA by Laurel.

If anyone was going to ask that question, it'd be you Penny B!! It may have been a distant cousin of the actual bird as neither of the twitchers had a camera on them!!

Hi Kate,

Once again, great home page and great reviews. I had toyed with the idea of going to see Sinead, but money being tight I decided I wouldn't. I have to say I'm glad I didn't.

Looks like I missed an amazing night with KD, maybe next time I'll make the effort.

Thanks for looking after the site for us, It's much appreciated!

A brilliant write up Kate. It was a fantastic day and I really enjoyed it. Judging by the look on some faces as we walked down Northumberland Street I would say that more than a few would have liked to have joined in. Lets hope lots more join in next year.

Kate, a great report.

I've looked at the photos on the Sunday Sun site. Can it really be Newcastle? It could be Rio!

Obviously a special day. I'm so sad I missed it.

Thanks for a great report Kate. You have no idea how proud I was to be leading the first ever Pride parade through Newcastle. I have to say, I was so busy concentrating on keeping the band right that I was oblivious to much of the proceedings, but I too was overwhelmed by the support we received, especially at the Civic Centre.
The event in the park was excellent as well; I spent a lot of time helping at the Women4Women stall along with several members of Lesbian Line.
If anyone wants to check out some brilliant photos of Pride, look up www.sundaysun.co.uk and follow the links via the news pages to the gay pride gallery.
Here's hoping for many more days like last Saturday.

Hi Kate,

Great home page leader. You are funny!!

I was just about to e-mail to say that Marilyn and Jane Russell had had a long run and what should we have next. So good on you for getting it done.

Let's hope that Laura Robson is our new great hope. Dare we even think it!!

21 June 2008 10:29:45
Re: Kath's Sarah Waters question. Yes, I did see the show, very good it was too. I love her books 'Tipping the Velvet' and 'Fingersmith' and I enjoyed the TV adaptations although they were a bit galloped through, and (obviously) centred around the most sensational aspects of the books. I didn't Read Affinity because I don't like ghost stories, and I really didn't like Night Watch. I find that particular literary device of starting at the end quite irritating, and in the case of Night Watch, it was also depressing as one knew from the outset that the penetrating gloom of the story was never going to be relieved. I believe that her new book does not feature lesbians as central characters, which is a shame. Absolutely her right of course but, I would have thought that she has had enough success as a writer of lesbian stories, to not need to court the mainstream.

Re Julie Felix gig. I totally agree with your thoughts on this.

I enjoyed most of the cover versions she did and the Spanish songs were superb, but, like you, I had trouble connecting with some of the songs for whatever reason.

However, I think Julie seemed to be enjoying herself. and there was no doubting the affection the audience had for her.
Kath
18 June 2008 19:19:06
Had a great time in Seahouses on Saturday, sorry we lost half the group after the crazy golf. Thanks to whoever thought of the idea! Julie, it was really nice meeting you at the weekend, come back and join us again sometime. it was also great to see you again jude, but where were you last night at the Bangshees gig in Sunderland?!

Keep it up, Kate. This must be a leading contender for 'Best website in the Region' - if only somebody ran such a competition!
Annie
16 June 2008 12:06:20
Kate - have to agree re the set on Saturday night, a real mixture, but the spanish songs stood out as a real treat. Lovely to see the welcome she was given, though, and I am so glad to have seen her. I still have very fond memories of watching her TV show - all too many years ago!
Will you have to re-write your leader for June, now that we've had a mini heatwave?
kate Bromwich-Alexandra

Maybe women4womenuk.com could be added to the contacts list please. Neoln website looking very good though. Thanks for all your work on it Kate.

Did anyone see Sarah Waters on the South Bank Show last weekend? What is the consensus of opinion about what her best novel is? I still think Tipping the Velvet is excellent, though also like the Night Watch as well.

Would everyone be interested in having the networking events listed, maybe in a separate section, to keep them distinct from the social side [which is our main purpose, of course]?
It would then be possible for people to follow up on things that interested them.

Hi Kate,

Love the photo of Leisha and KD.

I have to admit I've been as bad as everyone else when it comes to contributing to the site.

I think it would be sad if we lost it.

I'll have a think about things to add and maybe I could submit a photo at some point.

I'd like to have a music/gig section, so that we could post details of up coming gigs and artists we recommend.

a number of people have said that the Guestbook won't recognise the code. I have tried this several times and it does seem to work. I should point out that the codes are case sensitive so maybe that is the problem. Please do tell me what problems you are having inputting messages as I can report them

Hi Kate, this looks really good. If anyone wants to add anything, how do we do this? Do you have to do it or can anyone do it? For example, the book group isn't on and neither is the Health afternoon. I also think it might be useful to have a history of the group, and some of the previous activities. Thanks such a lot for doing this - a real step forward! Lisa
